A digital and interactive art program for TK-6 graders led by a "docent" who is a volunteer or parent.
Students see images of famous art and make their own art using a wide variety of media and techniques.
What do Art Docents do?
Teach art appreciation and lead an art project to students. Project should highlight arts over crafts.
What do they teach?
Themed art lessons are prepared by the program, but you are free to create your own art projects related to the lesson.
Do docents need an art degree?
No! A passion for arts and kids is all you need!
Do docents have to be parents?
No! Grandparents have volunteered in the past.
How often are the lessons and how long?
Lessons are once a month, approx. 1-hour long. Art presentation (discussion on 5 art pieces) run about 15 mins and the art projects are usually 45-60 mins.
Who provides the art supplies?
The program has art paper, construction paper, tempera paint, watercolors, chalk pastel, crayons, markers, and more!
Who keeps the artwork?
You may discuss with teachers to temporarily display on walls, but docents keep all the art until core knowledge night (in May).
Each student will have a docent-provided art portfolio (typically made out of brown grocery bag).
Is it super fun and rewarding?
