ART DOCENT INFO
WHAT DO ART DOCENTS DO?
Teach art appreciation and lead an art project to students. Project should highlight arts over crafts.
WHAT DO THEY TEACH?
Themed art lessons prepared by the program, but you are free to create your own art projects related to the lesson.
DO DOCENTS NEED AN ART DEGREE OR EXPERIENCE?
No! A passion for arts and kids is all you need!
DO DOCENTS HAVE TO BE PARENTS?
No! Grandparents have volunteered in the past. All volunteers just need to meet school requirements.
HOW OFTEN ARE THE LESSONS AND HOW LONG?
Lessons are given once a month, approximately 1-hour long.
Art presentation (discussion on art pieces) run about 15-20 mins and the art projects are typically 45-60 mins.
WHO PROVIDES THE ART SUPPLIES?
The program has art paper, construction paper, tempera paint, watercolors, chalk pastel, crayons, markers, and more!
WHAT HAPPENS TO THE ART AT THE END OF A LESSON?
You may discuss with teachers to temporarily display on walls, but docents keep all the art until core knowledge night (in May).
All art is returned to students during core knowledge night in an art portfolio.
WHO PROVIDES THE ART PORTFOLIOS?
Docents provide each student with an art portfolio (typically made out of brown grocery bag).
